What a fantastic book for anyone who is a "reader." Conroy is so descriptive about the books that inspired him and his mother. Fascinating! Conroy says he can look back on himself as a youth and "believe that the reading of great books saved his life."

Mr. March, the absent father of the Little Women, as he goes off to war. I read this for book club and it generated a ton of discussion about the Civil War and related issues. Most of us really liked it.
